Il loro primo lavoro, &#8220;Down In Mexico&#8221; nel 1956, risale al periodo in cui la band \u00e8 formata, oltre che da Gardner, da Billy Guy, Leon Hughes e Bobby Nunn. Molte loro canzoni sono utilizzate come colonne sonore per film. Chiamati &#8220;i principi clown del rock and roll&#8221;, nel 1987, i The Coasters sono il primo gruppo inserito nella &#8220;Rock and Roll Hall of Fame&#8221; a Cleveland (Ohio, Usa).
